Summertime

1. What is your favorite thing about Summer?   I hate to be a party-pooper but I really do not like the summer months. It’s too hot, it’s unbelievably humid, our business is slower, and did I mention that it’s too hot?

2. What is your favorite outdoor activity?  Running and walking, but walking wins in the summertime. Running in the heat is really hard for me.

3. If you had to choose, would you prefer to be too hot or too cold?  I would always prefer to be too cold. You can always put on more clothes, but you can only take off so many.

4. Does your appetite increase or decrease during warmer months?  I am always hungry, no matter what the temperature, lol. However, the foods I crave vary depending on the season / weather.

5. What is your favorite seasonal Summer fruit?  Without a doubt, mango.

6. Would you prefer to spend a hot summer day at the mall or at a swimming pool?   I would like to say the pool, but I’d probably pick the mall for the air conditioning. I live in Florida and it is just too darn hot and humid in the summer.

7. Are you more likely to tan or sunburn?  I tan very well. And I love being tan.

8. How does your routine change when Summer begins?  I have a really hard time running in the heat so I am more likely to walk.

9. What is the temperature outside where you are today?  It’s supposed to be 90, which means a feels like probably around 100 thanks to the rain we had this morning which made for extra humidity.

10. What is your favorite Summer holiday?  Probably Labor Day as it marks the end of summer. Like I said,I am not a fan of summertime. I am a fall / winter girl!

Now it’s your turn. Don’t forget to post the answers on your own blog, then come back and link up in the comments! Happy Monday, Friends!

FMM: Q & A

1. What’s the most obnoxious word/phrase you use on a regular basis?  I say “whatever” alot, and it’s usually in a sarcastic way. I’m sure it gets old, but whatever. 🙂

2. What’s the most memorable bumper sticker you’ve ever seen?  Since I like to be sarcastic, I like the one that says “I’m sarcastic. What’s your super power?”

3. Share one pet peeve that causes you more grief than it should.  Probably stuff piling up on the dining room table. It seems to be a catch-all and drives me insane because it’s right there in the middle of the room. Ugh. I am just as guilty of this as hubby is, but we really need a better system.

4. What are your thoughts on re-gifting presents?  I think it’s okay in certain situations, like not re-gifting back to the person who gave it to you, lol.

5. What was your biggest accomplishment this week? I worked out Friday, Saturday, and Sunday! TaeBo and 2 walks!

6. What’s the title of the last movie you watched?  On TV, it was Hitch. At the theater, it was American Reunion.

7. If you could only choose one, would you rather have a full-time cleaning person or a full-time chef?  A cleaning person FOR SURE. I used to like to clean, but now I just hate it. There’s just not enough time to do it and despite my attempts to keep up on it, it turns into a major cleaning.

8. Do you enjoy shopping for clothes, or do you dread it?  I love it in the fall, not so much in the summer.

9. What’s your favorite sport to play/watch?  I used to love to play tennis and would totally do it more if I had time/money for it. I used to love to watch football, but I haven’t in a long time. Hockey is pretty cool to watch.

10. If you could have coffee with anyone today who would you choose?  It would be super fabulous to have coffee with my fabulous aunts.  🙂

Now it’s your turn. Don’t forget to come back and link up in the comments.

FMM: Cooking Habits

1. What is your favorite meal to prepare at home?  I definitely go through phases on what I like to cook. Two of my current faves are tilapia with zucchini and tomatoes AND chicken tacos.

2. Do you like to experiment in the kitchen, or do you prefer to stick to the basics? Ironically, I like to experiment. And I say ironically because I used to be terrified of cooking and didn’t think I had it in me. I like to mix ingredients that I like and try new things. The basics might get me started but then I’ll expand on it from there.

3. What is your favorite cookbook?   I currently really like the Best Darn Food Ever cookbook from WW. Otherwise, despite all the cookbooks I own, I really like finding recipes online.

4. Do you have any tricks to share that help you reach your fruits and veggies goal for the day? During the week, I try to always have a fruit with breakfast or mid-morning snack, a banana being my favorite. I like to have veggies with dinner, the more colorful, the better. And salads are a good way to get a real assortment in.

5. What’s the most interesting thing you made last week?  Whoopie Pies. I have never made them before. The recipe came from the Best Darn Food Ever cookbook I mentioned above. Hubby liked them, even though he was used to them being made with an icing in the middle instead of marshmallow cream. They came out much bigger than I wanted, so the next time I know what to do different, or will at least try to do different. You can see my post about the Whoopie Pies here: https://thiscrazylifeofmine2012.wordpress.com/2012/04/29/sunday-in-the-kitchen-042912/

6. How often do you watch cooking shows on TV?  I don’t. I used to watch The Cake Boss but it was just to be amazed by the cakes, not to try and make them.

7. When you’re hungry, where are you most likely to look first? The refrigerator, or the pantry?  The refrigerator, always.

8. List a few healthy staples that can always be found in your kitchen.  There is always boneless skinless chicken breast in the freezer. I bag it by the piece so I can make as little or as much as I want. I also buy and freeze tilapia – it thaws very quickly. There are always bananas, salad fixings, and veggies. I used to eat alot of grapes but I got tired of them. Right now, I have watermelon and mangos in the fridge. I also try to have fresh salsa because it makes for a good topping on baked potatoes or fish.

9. Are you motivated to cook at home even when you’re eating alone?  Yes, and if I’m cooking just for myself, I tend to be a little more creative then if I’m cooking for the two of us.

10. How often do you try new recipes?  I save a lot of recipes and swear I have to try them. I can go forever without trying a new one. This month, I’ve tried at least one new one a week.

Be sure to share your answers if you participate. This was a fun one!

FMM: Q & A

1. Share one thing that has changed about you since you began blogging. I have realized how much writing means to me, even if it’s just me reading it.

2. If you were forced to give up chocolate or potato chips for an entire year which one would you choose to live without? This is a hard one because I love both chocolate and potato chips. But, I am pretty sure I would give up chocolate because I am more a salty girl.

3. What’s more attractive? A man in a suit, or a man in uniform? Probably a man in a suit…

4. If you could be a guest star on a reality show which one would it be?  Huh, tricky one… Since I can’t sing or dance, I guess I would have to pick one that doesn’t have anything to do with that. Celebrity Apprentice would be pretty cool.

5. What is the last meal that you prepared for yourself? Last night I made myself Eggplant Stacks which were super yummy.

6. Is your hair colored, or is it natural? Currently it’s natural but it needs to be colored. There is way too much going on up there.

7. If you could leave town today and go anywhere, where would you go? A cruise sounds really nice right about now. Anyone that is heading to the Caribbean.

8. Do you prefer to exercise at the gym, at home or outside? Outside,  definitely.

9. Have you ever asked someone out on a date?  Yes but it would have been a longgggg time ago.

10. How many cups of coffee do you drink on an average day? Right now it’s only once or twice a week.

11. Do you pack lightly, or do you over pack? Overpack. I need to be prepared.

12. What color are your nails now? Au naturel. I never paint my nails colors. Sometimes I paint them clear. Polish never stays on my nails.

13. If you could have lunch with one notable (living) person who inspires you who would it be?  Jon Katz, a blogger and writer who shares his stories of his life on Bedlam Farm. I love to read books about dogs and their relationships with people and he is high on my list of favorite authors on this topic.

14. Who is your favorite professional athlete?  I am sorry to say that I don’t really have a favorite professional athlete. I don’t watch alot of sports.

15. Gum or mints?  Gum.

16. Have you ever eaten crawfish?  Yep!

17. List one or more human characteristics that are a complete turn-off.  I loathe drama, self-centered people, two-faced people, and liars.

18. What is your favorite season?  Autumn! (also the name of my most adorable niece!)

19. Do you prefer to shake hands or hug? Hugs are great!

20. Can you quote lines from Saved by the Bell from memory? If so, what’s your favorite? I admit to watching it, but I really don’t remember specific lines.

If life were a movie, which one would you want to live in?

This is kind of a tough question. I love movies,  and I have a handful of movies I REALLY love. And depending on when you ask me this, my answer may vary. But for today, my answer would be….. GREASE!

When I was in junior high I watched this movie a lot. I wanted to dress like Sandy, with the cute dresses (although ironically I am not at all a dress girl) and hairstyles. Of course it would also be fun to go to high school where everyone breaks out into song and dance. The fact that I can’t sing or dance should not affect this at all…. AND to have a fabulous carnival at the end? Seriously! How fun would that be!

I loved Sandy and Danny. How could you not? Of course this was shortly after Olivia Newton John phase where I would listen to all her music. But I also would have loved to have been one of the Pink Ladies Their satin jackets were so cool!

It was a fun movie, with the singing and dancing, great characters, great music, and great clothes. Yes, Grease would definitely be high on my list of movies I would like to live in.

The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to post your own FMM post and comment on a couple of other posts. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!

  1. Are there foods in your life that always seem to trigger overeating?  Ohhhhh yes….
  2. If so, what are they? Chips and salsa, pizza, donuts
  3. When are you most likely to give into strong cravings?  When I am stressed, emotional, upset, etc…. If I’m not in a good mood, whatever the reason or mood may be, it can send me to the nearest food that is bad for me.
  4. Are you more likely to be triggered by salty foods or sugary foods?   Salty, but then I’d want to follow it up with sugary.
  5. How do you get back on track after overeating? Generally, the better I am about running, the better I am about eating. I also step up my water intake because that just naturally fills me up.
  6. Are there any foods that you allow yourself to eat without limits? Veggies. Everything else has to have a limit of some sort otherwise I am out of control with it. (I’m telling you, I could be a walking/talking public service announcement for emotional eating.)
  7. Do you notice a change in your emotions while eating trigger foods? Kind of. It makes me momentarily happy to eat that bad food, but then it is followed by guilt. And it doesn’t really help the situation that made me upset, stressed, mad, whatever…
  8. Do you have a strategy to keep yourself from overeating trigger foods?  The easiest thing is to not buy the foods that set me off. If I keep chips and salsa in the house, it’s next to impossible to stay away from them. If I’m at a restaurant, I’ll either ignore them altogether or set a limit. Being the all-or-nothing girl that I am, it is sometimes just easier to not have them all then to have just a limited amount.

Now it’s your turn to answer this week’s questions! Don’t forget to come back and link up in the comments! Happy Monday!

  2. I wanted to grow up to be a…  an architect.
  3. I refused to eat… I don’t really remember having specific food dislikes then. I don’t even think my extreme distaste of american cheese was around then.

  5. I broke my…  foot in high school, running down the driveway. Couldn’t drive my truck, which was a standard, until it healed.
  6. I liked to wear… I don’t really remember liking anything specific but I know I wore alot of pull-over sweaters.
  7. My parents always… enjoyed taking all of us on road trips. We crossed the US many times.

  11. I got in trouble when…  of course I don’t remember every doing anything wrong, HA!!!! I’m sure I got in trouble for being mean to my brother more than once.
  12. My bedroom was… a reflection of who I was and who I idolized. When I was 9, I had a white canopy bed with Holly Hobby bedding and I loved it. My first posters were of The Dukes of Hazzard, specifically John Schneider, and anything having to do with Fame! As I got older, the canopy bed went away. I became a fan of Marilyn Monroe. As my love of music expanded, I had posters of George Strait, Bon Jovi, Poison, and many more.
  13. My favorite food was…  Italian and Mexican. I have never had a problem enjoying food and could always eat more than I needed to.
  14. My parents always made me… I had to try a new food at least once. If I didn’t like it, I didn’t have to eat it again.
  15. My first crush was…  John Schneider, seriously. I wanted to marry him. I always watched the Dukes of Hazzard. Does anyone remember when he came out with a record, It’s Now Or Never? I do, it was 1981, and I listened to it on my portable record player, over and over again.
  16. My favorite toy was… I loved my big Barbie doll house. But I also loved that portable record player.
  17. I thought school was…  necessary. I always liked school, but also wanted to be at home. As I got older, I liked school more and more.
  18. My biggest fear was… something happening to my mom or dad.
  19. My favorite story was… I have always LOVED to read. I was the kid that read alot over the summer and I was always reading at a higher grade level than I was in. I loved all of the Judy Blume books, especially Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. I could read her books over and over again. I probably still would if I had them.
  20. My favorite memories… I have many wonderful memories of being 10, we were living in Maryland, I was playing tennis, and my little brother had just been born. I had so much fun helping my mom with him. We would go to upstate New York at Christmas to my uncle’s house. We would have family gatherings, my grandfather and everyone would be there. It was a great time.

  10. Quote – “I’m selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can’t handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don’t deserve me at my best.”  ~Marilyn Monroe
